10 minutes of mobility to unlock your entire body
Stiff neck, locked hips, cracking back: this 10-minute circuit gets everything moving again. No equipment required, a mat is enough β light dumbbells for those who want to add some weight.
Back to school also means back to sitting all day, crowded commutes, and staring at screens. Our bodies can become stiff without us even noticing. Five well-chosen mobility movements are enough to unlock everything: spine, hips, shoulders. We'll do a circuit: 40 seconds of effort, 20 seconds of rest, two rounds, ten minutes flat. Breathe deeply, move slowly, let's go.
1. Dynamic Cat-Cow
On all fours, hands under shoulders, knees under hips. Alternate between a rounded back (chin to chest) and an arched back (chest opening, gaze lifting), at the rhythm of your breath. Dumbbell variation: a light dumbbell in each hand to anchor your support and strengthen your core during the movement.
2. Low Lunge with Torso Rotation
Start in a deep forward lunge, back knee on the ground, hands on either side of the front foot. Push your back hip towards the ground to open the groin, then twist your torso towards the front leg, lifting one arm towards the ceiling. Alternate sides with each repetition. Dumbbell variation: a light dumbbell in the hand that lifts, to intensify the rotation and back work.
3. Thoracic Rotation "Thread the Needle"
On all fours, slide one arm under your body until your shoulder and temple are on the ground, then unroll and open the same arm towards the ceiling, following your hand with your gaze. Alternate sides. Dumbbell variation: a light dumbbell in the opening hand, for true loaded thoracic mobility work.
4. Shoulder Circles and Chest Opener
Standing, arms extended to the sides, draw large circles β ten forward, ten backward β then open your chest wide by pulling your shoulder blades back, elbows bent. Dumbbell variation: a very light dumbbell in each hand to add weight to the movement, without ever straining the trapezius muscles.
5. Lateral Lunge for Hip Mobility
Standing, take a big step to the side, bend one knee while keeping the other leg straight, hips back, torso slightly leaning forward. Glide smoothly from side to side. Dumbbell variation: hold a dumbbell with two hands in front of your chest, to add weight and strengthen hip stabilizers.
Two rounds, ten minutes, a body that breathes better. Mobility is not measured by weight lifted but by increased range of motion: we aim for the smoothest possible movement, never the most extreme position. Light dumbbells (1 to 2 kg is enough) add just enough resistance for stabilizing muscles to work, without ever straining a pulling joint.
Listen to your sensations with each movement β tension, yes, pain, never. If an area remains stiff after the session, you can repeat the circuit gently at the end of the day. No promise of restored flexibility in a day here, just a short ritual that, when repeated, truly makes a difference. See you next week for more.
